Personality, Learning, and Teaching

In taking the personality survey, it turns out that I have a Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving (ISFP) personality. In reflecting on these results, I believe it makes sense that I am drawn to Social Science/History. A historian can spend hours in solitude exploring historical sources in an archive. I really enjoying see the cyclical patterns in the narratives of the past. Working with students to recognize or sense these patterns for themselves is one of the most satisfying things in the the world to accomplish in my opinion.

I have built a strong relationships over the years with my students, utilizing my personality type tendency to be complementary to provide positive reinforcement of student skills. However, an area that I have to work on with my personality is maintaining a professional disposition with the students no matter how I am feeling.

My teaching style was pretty well balanced with formal authority, personal model, and delegator coming in at the high category. While expert and facilitator came in at the moderate level. Additionally, my learning style was well balanced outside of the visual/verbal dimension. In reflecting on my teaching and learning styles along with my teaching track record I know that my students will have many opportunities to be successful in my classroom. I feel that way because I have embraced differentiated instruction methods like jigsaw, Project Based Learning, and simulations.
