Five Day Learning Map Sample

According to Fischer and Fry in their  book Checking for Understanding: Formative Assessment Techniques for your Classroom it is important to consider the concept of Understanding by Design when planning a Scope and Sequence. They state, "Teachers and curriculum developers learned to begin with the end in mind and plan accordingly" (Fischer, 2014, p. 8). Ultimately, backward design is a key component for a teacher when planning out their units.

De who? Andrés DeRosales

Hello my name is Andrés DeRosales and I am a San Francisco native whose grandparents migrated from Nicaragua. As a SF native, I grew up a huge Giants fan. So when the Giants won their first of three in five years World Series championships on my birthday, I was a little excited. After high school, I joined the United States Air Force as a firefighter. This decision sent me on the path to becoming a history teacher. I ending up with obtaining a Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Arts in History. I have been teaching in private schools for seven years. Currently, I am wrapping up the last quarter of teaching freshmen Early World History at a charter high school in San Francisco. Personality, Learning, and Teaching

In taking the personality survey, it turns out that I have a Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving (ISFP) personality. In reflecting on these results, I believe it makes sense that I am drawn to Social Science/History. A historian can spend hours in solitude exploring historical sources in an archive. I really enjoying see the cyclical patterns in the narratives of the past. Working with students to recognize or sense these patterns for themselves is one of the most satisfying things in the the world to accomplish in my opinion. I have built a strong relationships over the years with my students, utilizing my personality type tendency to be complementary to provide positive reinforcement of student skills. However, an area that I have to work on with my personality is maintaining a professional disposition with the students no matter how I am feeling.
